Carmakers Cut Their Prices

Two carmakers announced an immediate price reduction of some models of their cars while two others would follow suit.

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has lowered the price of its passenger models by 4%, except the Kancil Ex 660/850 manual, both of which will be cheaper by RM300.
There will be no price change for its Rusa and Kembara models.

Daimler Chrysler Malaysia, makers of Mercedes Benz, announced price reductions of 6.5% to 10% for all its completely knocked down (CKD) models.

Local carmaker Proton Holdings said it was discussing with the authorities before cutting prices by 2% to 5%.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd’s new prices, between 5.6% and 11% less depending on model, would be announced next week.

Under the National Automotive Policy, import duties for qualifying Asean vehicles (those with at least 40% local content) were reduced from 15% to 5% from Thursday.
